Quite Ordinary

Careful, you might miss it.  There is beauty in the ordinary. Sometimes, I feel pretty ordinary.  How about you?

I’m not that interesting.  I’m not that good looking.  Believe it or not, I’m not that strong.  I’m not special.  I’m not that gifted.  I'm weak.  In fact, if I fall into the comparison trap, which I often do, I ALWAYS fall short.  Everyone else seems special, even beautiful in their own right.

It’s in these moments, when I feel ordinary, that I love to reflect upon what Jesus tells me…

  • I’m created in God’s image and likeness. Gen 1:26-27
  • I’m uniquely, wonderfully and beautifully made. Psalm 139:13-14
  • I’m loved by the Creator of the universe.  Ephesians 3:18-19, Psalm 36:5-7
  • I’m known by God.  Jeremiah 1:5
  • I’m God's possession. 1 Peter 2:9
  • I’m valuable to God.  Matthew 10:29-31
  • I’m a child of God.  1 John 3:2
  • I’m continually being molded... Jesus isn’t done with me. Isaiah 64:8, Ephesians 2:10, 2 Corinthians 3:18
  • I will eventually be presented as complete and perfect before Christ. 1 John 3:2, Colossians 1:28

I love to stop, look around me, to seek and find extraordinary beauty in what is considered to be my ordinary surroundings.  Take a moment, and breath in the extraordinary beauty that you are, and that surrounds us each day.  We walk by, unaware of it’s presence, but it’s there, constantly.

For me, there is little better than capturing unbelievable beauty with my camera... beauty in the ordinary.  Following are some shots I took on some of my reflective walks over the last year.  Thank you Jesus, for I am yours.
