People Like You & Me – Week #7

The story of Deborah, Barak and Jael in Judges 4 features an amalgam of unusual characters: an obedient female judge and prophetess, a squeamish male military and political leader, and two-faced female executioner.  While this story has no connection to the New Testament gender qualifications for present church leaders, it does leave us with a few good lessons for life.  First, God often allows his disobedient children to suffer their sins' consequences to get their attention - sometimes for as long as we remain hard-headed and in sin.  Second, when God's appointed time to act is at hand, God uses the most unusual agents to bring His will to completion in the most unexpected ways - God uses people we would never use.  And last, we can persevere in the toughest of circumstances, short-term or long-term, with Christ's empowerment.

People Like You & Me – Week #4

The people found on the pages of Scripture are people like you and me. They’re men and women living their lives and seeking after God. This week and next we take a look at Moses. Moses is mentioned in the New Testament more than any other Old Testament figure. His role was significant, his humility was genuine (and off the charts, as we see in Numbers 12:3), and his struggles were real. This morning as we gather around the Lord's Table we will look at a "song" he wrote... Join us as we study Psalm 90.

People Like You & Me – Week #1

Today we begin a new series entitled "People Like You and Me."  We will take a look at some of the people in history who made it into print in God's Word.  Sometimes we look at the characters in Scripture as larger than life… "Heroes of the Faith"... People we feel we could never measure up to.  But, at the end of the day, they are people just like you and me...People who struggle with faith, who question God, who fail, and who sometimes do downright foolish things.  We will start at the beginning of the Bible with Adam and Eve...

    Psalm 46

This morning we will take a look into Psalm 46. This psalm was written by the sons of a man named Korah. One of the most familiar and often-quoted verses in all of Psalms is found in verse 10 which reads, "Be still and know that I am God." Let's take some time this morning to "be still" before God and ask Him to speak into our hearts and minds.

    Psalm 23

This morning we take a look into one of the most beautiful and beloved Psalms: Psalm 23. This is known as the “Shepherds’ Psalm,” and presents a beautiful picture of our journey with God. Before serving as king, David was well acquainted with what it meant to be a shepherd…and he draws on his experience to connect us in a beautiful way with the Chief Shepherd.
